The Class of 2023 design committee and officers celebrated their Ring Premiere in Burruss Hall on Oct. 6, where their ring design was unveiled.

The ring is a way for students to honor and remember their time at Virginia Tech, with significance in every design detail. The 2023 ring depicts special moments like the inaugural Hokie Hike, a caduceus symbol to honor health care workers, and a tribute to therapy dog Moose.

This year’s sponsor, Bevlee Watford, and namesake, Irving L. Peddrew, spoke about the class ring and the importance of their time at Virginia Tech.

Watford is currently the associate dean for equity and engagement and the executive director of the Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity.

Peddrew was the first Black student admitted to Virginia Tech, as well as the first undergraduate Black student to attend any historically all-white four-year public institution in the 11 former states of the Confederacy.

Here’s a look at the celebration.
