Robert Grisso honored with emeritus status

Robert Grisso, professor of biological systems engineering in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the title of professor emeritus by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.

The emeritus title may be conferred on retired professors, associate professors, and administrative officers who are specially recommended to the board by Virginia Tech President Tim Sands in recognition of exemplary service to the university. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board receive a copy of the resolution and a certificate of appreciation.

A member of the Virginia Tech faculty since 2001, Grisso’s work in machinery management, precision farming, farm safety, and improved machine performance brought international visibility to Virginia Tech. He has authored or co-authored more than 135 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and abstracts, and more than 280 fact sheets, circulars, magazines, and conference proceedings. After a 20-year career, Grisso retired from the Department of Biological Systems Engineering in June 2021.

A Fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), Grisso has served as the executive/steering committee chair for the ASABE’s Power and Machinery Division. He has served as associate editor of the ASABE’s Power and Machinery Division of Transactions for more than 20 years.

At Virginia Tech, Grisso has previously served as interim head of the Department of Biological Systems Engineering.

Grisso earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Virginia Tech and his Ph.D. from Auburn University.
