Search committee set for senior advisor to the president and vice provost for inclusion and diversity
In support of Virginia Tech’s new InclusiveVT effort, a search is being launched for a new senior advisor to the president and vice provost for inclusion and diversity.
At Virginia Tech, responsibility and accountability for inclusion and diversity efforts are distributed throughout the institution. The senior advisor to the president reports directly to the president on policies, programs, services, and current issues that shape and impact the university’s progress on inclusion and diversity. As one of the five vice provosts who report to the executive vice president and provost, the vice provost for inclusion and diversity leads and coordinates Virginia Tech’s distributed model of inclusion and diversity known as InclusiveVT.
Elizabeth Spiller, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, will chair the search committee. Members of the search committee are the following:

- Mary Beth Dunkenberger, senior program director, Institute for Policy and Governance
- Carlos Evia Puerto, associate professor and director of professional writing, Department of English
- Matthew Gabriele, associate professor, Department of Religion and Culture
- Guru Ghosh, vice president, Outreach and International Affairs
- Nicole Johnson, graduate student, Educational Leadership and Policy Studies
- Barbara Lockee, professor and associate director, School of Education
- Megan Nguyen, undergraduate student, Biological Sciences
- Karen Eley Sanders, associate vice provost for undergraduate academic affairs, Student Success Center, and chief diversity officer, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
- Glenda Scales, associate dean for international programs and information technology, College of Engineering
- Kenneth Wong, associate dean of the graduate school and Northern Virginia Center director, Northern Virginia Center
The search committee welcomes nominations for the position. Virginia Tech has engaged Isaacson, Miller to assist with this search. The position description as well as nomination and application processes will be announced later this month and will be available through the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost website.
