Aspen Santa Fe Ballet blends classical and contemporary dance for a distinctive performance
The grace and elegance of classical ballet fuses with a repertoire of sharp new work for a performance by Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. The Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech presents the eclectic contemporary ballet company on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m.
The performance will be held in the Anne and Ellen Fife Theatre, located within the Moss Arts Center’s Street and Davis Performance Hall at 190 Alumni Mall.
With a bold vision supported by top choreographers, distinctive groundbreaking works, and virtuoso dancers, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet embraces the contemporary-classical genre of dance. Led by Tom Mossbrucker, former celebrated star of the Joffrey Ballet, the chamber-sized ensemble places highest priority on developing new choreography and nurturing relationships with emerging choreographers.
The company fostered the early careers of global dance makers like Nicolo Fonte, Jorma Elo, Edwaard Liang, Jacopo Godani, Helen Pickett, Cayetano Soto, Alejandro Cerrudo, and others. Works by late 20th century masters, including William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, and Twyla Tharp, round out the repertoire.
The company will hold a master class with area ballet dancers on October 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Center of Dance in Blacksburg. Aspen Santa Fe Ballet has solid home seasons in Aspen, Colorado, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, as well as year-round national and international touring. The company regularly brings its trademark innovative choreography to dance landmarks like Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, the Kennedy Center, American Dance Festival, Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, and New York’s Joyce Theater. Internationally, the company has performed in Brazil, Canada, France, Greece, Guatemala, Israel, Italy, and Russia.
Tickets
Tickets are $25-$55 for general public and $10 for students and youth 18 years old and under. Tickets can be purchased online; at the Moss Arts Center's box office, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday; or by calling 540-231-5300.
Parking is available in the North End Parking Garage on Turner Street. Virginia Tech faculty and staff possessing a valid Virginia Tech parking permit can enter and exit the garage free of charge. Limited street parking is also available. Parking on Alumni Mall is free on weekdays after 5 p.m. and on weekends.
