Kristy Daniels named assistant professor of dairy science
Kristy Daniels has been appointed assistant professor in the Department of Dairy Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Daniels is one of 19 faculty members that recently came on board within the college. New positions were identified to bring new talent to its focus areas, including food and health, infectious disease, biodesign and processing, and agricultural profitability and environmental sustainability. The new faculty members are distributed across teaching, research, and Extension.
Daniels received her Ph.D. in animal sciences with a concentration in dairy science and a master's degree in dairy science from Virginia Tech. She obtained her bachelor's degree in animal science from Michigan State University.
During her graduate career, Daniels received several awards and was the recipient of one of the John Lee Pratt Fellowships in Animal Nutrition for Ph.D. studies at Virginia Tech. She was also the winner of the 2008 National Milk Producers Federation Graduate Student Paper Presentations contest.
Daniels has returned to Virginia Tech as an animal systems biologist. She has held previous positions as an assistant professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at Ohio State University’s Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, Ohio, and as a postdoctoral research assistant at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Bovine Functional Genomics Laboratory.
She currently conducts research in the areas of mammary growth and rumen biology.
