Corps alumnus Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Butt named Georgia Tech game Hokie Hero
Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Butt, U.S. Navy who earned a degree in political science from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and a minor in leadership studies from the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Rice Center for Leader Development in 2003 was the Hokie Hero for the football game versus Georgia Tech.
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Hokie Hero program started in 2006 by IMG College, honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the Corps of Cadets website and in the Corps Review magazine.
Butt is currently deployed for nine months to the Persian Gulf aboard the USS George H. W. Bush and is the Operations Officer for the World Famous Bear Aces of VAW (Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron) 124. He has flown more than 150 combat missions in support of Operations’ Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
Butt hails from San Diego, Calif., is a Class of 2003 graduate of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, and served as the Echo Company Commander his senior year. He sends his love to his wife Amy, daughter Alexis, to his friends and family, and to his fellow F-03 buds.
