Video: New executive chef combines down-home hospitality with upscale sophistication
Since childhood, David Oehring, a Southwest Virginia native and a big fan of Southern cooking, has always loved being in the kitchen, for both the food and the down-home camaraderie.
Recently named the new executive chef at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center, Oehring earned his degree from the Culinary Institute of America and has more than 37 years of professional cooking and kitchen management experience.
He has served as the inn’s executive sous chef since 2010. His background also includes executive chef positions in establishments such as The River Company Restaurant and Brewery in Fairlawn, Virginia, as well as the Federal Reserve Bank, Carowinds, and multiple Hilton hotels in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Oehring describes himself as having a classical European cooking background, though he most enjoys Southern and Cajun style cooking.
