Corps alumnus Lt. Col. Mark McLain named East Carolina game Hokie Hero
Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus Lt. Col. Mark McLain, U.S. Army Reserve who earned a degree in civil engineering from the College of Engineering in 1992 and a master's degree in civil engineering in 1999 was the Hokie Hero for the football game versus East Carolina University.
This game celebrated both the Corps of Cadets Homecoming and Military Appreciation Day.
The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Hokie Hero program began in 2006 by IMG College and honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the Corps of Cadets website and in the Corps Review magazine.
McLain is currently stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan, as the Officer-in-Charge, Kabul Area Office, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, TransAtlantic-Afghanistan District. He is from Petersburg, Virginia, and this is his fourth combat deployment.
McLain is a Class of 1992 graduate of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, served as the Second Battalion Operations Officer his senior year, and was a member of Ranger Company. He sends his love to his wife Lori in Colonial Heights, Virginia, his family, and especially to all the other Hokies deployed around the world.
