Commander of U.S. Cyber Command, Gen. Keith Alexander to speak on campus Feb. 13

As part of the Leaders in Action lecture series hosted each term by the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets Maj. Gen. W. Thomas Rice Center for Leader Development, Gen. Keith Alexander, U.S. Army, will speak to the Corps of Cadets Thursday, Feb. 13.
Alexander serves as commander, U.S. Cyber Command; director, National Security Agency; and chief, Central Security Service.
His talk will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the Burruss Hall auditorium, located at 800 Drillfield Dr. This event is open to the public and no tickets are required.
As Commander of U.S. Cyber Command, Alexander leads military and civilians charged with planning, coordinating and conducting the operation and defense of Department of Defense information networks, and prepare to, and when directed, conduct full-spectrum military cyberspace operations.
To address the real and growing cyber threat, U.S. Cyber Command has overseen the establishment of the Cyber Mission Force. This force, being built over the next few years, supports three mission areas: defend the nation in cyberspace against foreign adversaries, support Combatant Command priorities, and defend the Department of Defense information networks.
As the director of the National Security Agency and Chief of Central Security Service, he is responsible for leading a Department of Defense agency with national foreign intelligence, combat support, and U.S. national security information system protection responsibilities.
Alexander earned his commission from the U.S. Military Academy, and he holds four master’s degrees. He has held a number of high-level assignments in his 40-year career, including as the deputy chief of staff (G-2, Intelligence), commanding general of the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command, the director of Intelligence for U.S. Central Command, and has also led military intelligence troops at the company, battalion and brigade level.
