Sarah M. Pelham named 2013 Outstanding Graduating Senior in College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences
Sarah M. Pelham of Fredericksburg, Va., has been named the Outstanding Graduating Senior in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virgnia Tech for the 2012-13 academic year.
Pelham is a philosophy major in preparation for law school with concentrations in Chinese and English studies. She is a member of the University Honors program, a dean’s list student, and has been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society.
She has received numerous scholarships for academic merit including the Hokie Memorial Marathon Scholarship, the Moody, Pratt, Minor Scholarship, and the Pamplin College of Business Freshman Merit Scholarship. She also has received an undergraduate research award.
Additionally, Pelham was a student ambassador for her college, a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, a campus tour guide with Hokie Ambassadors, and a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity.
Active in many community service projects, Pelham participated in a program to mentor girls in a local elementary school and teach English through Conversation Partners.
She is the daughter of Joe and Chifang Pelham.
Outstanding Senior Awards are presented at the Student Honors Day Banquet each spring. Co-sponsored by the Virginia Tech Alumni Association and the senior class, the award recognizes outstanding student performance in each college of the university. Students are selected on the basis of their grade point average (a minimum of a 3.4 or higher on a 4.0 scale) and outstanding performance in several or all of the following areas: academic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership positions, and contributions of service to the university and/or community.
