Memorial service for police officer Deriek W. Crouse set for Dec. 8
A memorial service to honor the life of fallen police officer Deriek W. Crouse will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 at noon in the Coliseum Lot (off Washington Street and Spring Road) on the campus of Virginia Tech.
Crouse lost his life in the line of duty on Dec. 8, 2011.
This service will include remarks by Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger, Virginia Tech Police Chief Wendell Flinchum, Del. Joseph Yost (R-12th District), Virginia Tech Police Officer Kendrah Cline, and Rev. Tommy McDearis, chaplain for the Blacksburg and Virginia Tech police departments.
The service will conclude with the dedication of a permanent memorial made of Hokie Stone.

We are humbled to honor Deriek’s life and sacrifice with this service and dedication of a permanent memorial,” said Chief of Police Wendell R. Flinchum
Officer Crouse joined the Virginia Tech Police Department on Oct. 27, 2007, and served in the patrol division. He is survived by his wife, five children and step-children, and his mother, his father, and two brothers.
The Coliseum Lot will be closed to permit holders beginning Friday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. to accommodate parking for family, law enforcement officers attending from other agencies, and those with special needs / handicap parking; access to the Coliseum Lot will be from Spring Road. Others who plan to attend the event may be directed to the Track/Soccer Lot, Stadium Lot, Chicken Hill Lot, or Litton Reeves Lot.
