The Virginia Tech student group, Dance Marathon at VT, will host V-Thon, their annual dance marathon on Friday, Nov. 2 from 5 to 11 p.m. in the Squires Student Center Commonwealth Ballroom.

The event will support the Children's Miracle Network and Carilion Clinic and help children who have life-threatening diseases. Funds raised at the event will go directly to the hospital to buy medical equipment.

Advance (online) registration for V-Thon is $10 or $15 at the door.

The six-hour event is collaborative effort of 400 to 500 volunteers and participants and will feature live music, light shows, and performances by dance groups. Area children who have benefited from the Children's Miracle Network will attend and share their stories.

“The children are so strong for being between the ages of three and nine years old,” said Dance Marathon at VT participant Lauren Herrity of Ashburn, Va., a junior majoring in communications in the College of Language Arts and Human Sciences. “They get out on the dance floor and dance, sing, and run around like the energetic kids they are.”

Last year’s event raised more than $8,000. This year, the goal is $12,000.

V-Thon is sponsored, in part, by Moe’s Southwest Grill, The Odyssey, High Peak Sportswear, Kent Jewelers, Red Bull, Sigma Chi, the Virginia Tech Interfraternity Council, and Frosty Parrot.
