Fits and Fanfare by Leila Cartier on display at Perspective Gallery March 17 through April 12
Fits and Fanfare, a collection of recent paintings by Virginia artist Leila Cartier, will be on display at Virginia Tech’s Perspective Gallery in Squires Student Center March 17 through April 12.
There will be an opening reception at the gallery on Friday, March 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. Both the exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.
Cartier is the curator of the William King Museum in Abingdon, Va., as well as a professor of art history at Virginia Highlands Community College. She describes her work as exploring “themes involving the human condition,” and she writes on her website, “My paintings call upon heightened experiences of nature, perceptions of beauty, and modern-day social constitutions … Together, these portraits draw attention to the universal driving forces behind the character, impulses, and charades of living beings.”
The Perspective Gallery is located on the second floor of Squires Student Center. Fits and Fanfare will be on display during expanded gallery hours from Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 9 p.m., and Sunday, 2 to 7 p.m. The gallery is closed on Mondays.
