Zhiwu Xie has joined the University Libraries as digital technologies development librarian and associate professor.

As part of the Digital Library and Archives, he will play a key role in advancing the libraries’ digital information infrastructure and developing institutional repositories. He will also help strengthen Virginia Tech’s scholarly communication methods, digital library services, and management and preservation of the university’s digital intellectual output.

“It is our good fortune to have Zhiwu Xie join the library's faculty,” Gail McMillan, director of the Digital Library and Archives at the University Libraries, said. “His expertise will help us to expand our innovative digital library services.”

“I’m excited about the opportunities to build world-class digital library services at Virginia Tech,” Xie said.

Xie holds a bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and a master’s degree from the University of New Mexico. He previously worked as a Web services developer for the George Mason University Law Library, a senior Web technologist for PBS, and as a software engineer at the Johns Hopkins University Medical Library.
