Filmmaker Chris Munch to screen 'Letters from the Big Man' Nov. 30
Award winning filmmaker Chris Munch will screen his latest film "Letters from the Big Man" (2011) on Wednesday, Nov. 30 in the Lyric Theatre at 6:30 p.m. The screening will be followed by a Q-and-A with the director.
In "Letters from the Big Man," actress Lily Rabe, daughter of Academy Award nominated actress Jill Clayburgh, plays Sarah Smith, an artist and government hydrologist, who sets out on a post-fire stream survey in a remote part of the Kalmiopsis Wilderness of southwestern Oregon. In the course of her journey through this ancient and ecologically diverse land, she unwittingly finds herself interacting with a sasquatch man, and a mutual curiosity ensues. As their friendship deepens, Sarah must take bold steps to protect his privacy, as well as her own.
The Hollywood Reporter called the film "an original and affecting take on the sasquatch legend." "Letters from the Big Man" premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
In addition to "Letters from the Big Man," Munch has written and directed the feature film "Color of a Brisk and Leaping Day," which was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize and won the Cinematography Award at Sundance in 1996; "Harry and Max" (2004), featured in the Sundance dramatic competition; "The Sleepy Time Gal" (2001), which was featured in the Sundance dramatic competition and released theatrically in 2002; "The Hours and Times" (1992), based on the friendship of Brian Epstein and John Lennon, which received prizes at Berlin and Sundance and a Spirit Award, and appeared on numerous 10 Best and Best of Decade lists; and other unreleased pictures. Born in 1962 and self-taught in filmmaking, he was a Guggenheim Fellow in 1994 and received the IFP's Someone to Watch Award in 1996.
