Dr. Dana Neelis joins veterinary college as small animal radiologist
Dr. Dana Neelis of St. Ignace, Mich., has joined the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech as an assistant professor of radiology in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.
Neelis comes to the college from Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where she completed her residency in diagnostic imaging this past summer. Prior to her residency, Neelis completed an ultrasound and cardiology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center and an equine internship at the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky. She began her new position at the veterinary college on Oct. 3.
“We are very happy to have Dr. Neelis join our radiology section,” said Dr. Greg Daniel, head of the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. “Her previous experience and expertise in equine imaging will be a valuable addition to our college’s radiology team. She also has experience and expertise in cross-sectional imaging (MRI and CT scan) in both large and small animals. Dr. Neelis will play an important role as we expand our capabilities in these modalities.”
According to Daniel, Neelis will provide diagnostic imaging support for both large and small animals in the college’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. “She will also have an important teaching role as leader of our advance imaging course along with her participation in other courses in the curriculum,” he added.
Neelis received both a bachelor’s degree in veterinary science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University. She also completed a master’s degree in veterinary science from Washington State University. Neelis is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology.
