UFO expert Robert Hastings to speak at Virginia Tech Nov. 16
Virginia Tech Union will sponsor an appearance by UFO expert Robert Hastings, who will share his extensive research on the existence of UFOs and the government’s efforts to deal with the phenomenon on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Owens Banquet Room. The event is free and open to the public.
His 90-minute lecture and slideshow, “UFOs: The Secret Story,” focuses on information gleaned from thousands of declassified documents from U.S. Air Force bases, the FBI, and CIA, as well as interviews with 120 former or retired U.S. military personnel. Hastings says the documents and military accounts confirm the existence of UFOs and argues that the government is aware of it, despite years of denials.
Hastings has been researching UFOs since 1967, when he claims to have witnessed a two-week period of intermittent UFO activity from an air traffic control tower at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. Since then, he has devoted much of his time to studying the crafts and how the government responds to reported sightings.
In 2010, he co-sponsored the UFO-Nukes Connection press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. At the event, seven former or retired Air Force personnel discussed Cold War-era UFO activity at nuclear weapons sites. Hastings appeared on “Larry King Live” in 2008 to talk about his observations at Malmstrom.
After 5 p.m., free parking is available around the Drillfield with a visitor’s pass from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. No pass is necessary on the Drillfield after 8 p.m. or on weekends. A visitor’s pass may be obtained Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Visitor Information Center, located at 965 Prices Fork Road, near the intersection of Prices Fork and University City Boulevard next to the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center. A visitor’s pass may also be obtained from the Virginia Tech Police Station, located on Sterrett Drive, outside of the Visitor Information Center hours.
