Anne Khademian named director of School of Public and International Affairs
Anne Khademian of Alexandria, Va., has been named director of School of Public and International Affairs in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies.
Khademian most recently served as program director for the Center for Public Administration and Policy and has been at Virginia Tech since 2004.
“Anne’s commitment to the success of the faculty, the school, the college, and the university is evident in her past endeavors,” said Jack Davis, the Reynolds Metals Professor of Architecture and dean of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies. “I look forward to her continued engagement now as the director of a highly successful, nationally ranked set of programs in the School of Public and International Affairs.”
Khademian’s leadership abilities and dedication to education were a vital part of her time as program director of the Center for Public Administration in the National Capital Region. She is a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and was co-convener of the center’s Round Table on Leadership and Administration. Khademian served on the advisory board for the Center for Technology Security and to support a partnership with the Center for Public Administration and Policy in developing a distinctive research and educational focus on homeland and national security. She is also a co-editor for the Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory as well as a member of editorial boards for several public administration and policy journals.
Her past experience includes a research fellowship with the Brookings Institution, and faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Michigan and the University of Pennsylvania.
Khademian’s research and teaching interests include inclusive public management and democratic governance, organizational culture, leadership and administration, homeland security and public administration theory. She has written several articles and three books on these topics. In addition, she has played an important roll in three different grants the school has received during her time at Virginia Tech.
Khademian received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s of public administration degree from Michigan State University and a Ph.D in Political Science from Washington University.
She is currently balancing time between Blacksburg and Alexandria, Va., reflecting the school’s presence on Virginia Tech's main campus and in the National Capital Region.
