Second City improv group brings laughs to Virginia Tech
It’s common knowledge that Saturday Night Live produces great comedians. But where does Saturday Night Live find its cast?
The Second City Improv Group is the answer, and they’re coming to Blacksburg as part of the Virginia Tech Union’s spring performances.
The current class of the troupe that The New York Times called the “Harvard of humor” will take the stage in Burruss Hall Auditorium at Virginia Tech on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets, which are available at the ticket office in Squires Student Center and online, are $20 for general admission, $17 for Virginia Tech faculty and staff, $11 for children, and $7 for Virginia Tech students.
The Second City Improv Group, based in Chicago, has a long, reputable history of sketch comedy. In the company’s 50 year history the alumni list has grown to include great classic comedians as well as some of the biggest names making us laugh today. Before John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, and Gilda Radner starred as three original cast members on Saturday Night Live, they worked with Second City. Before Mike Myers was the international man of mystery and a giant, green ogre, he was on stage in Chicago performing with Second City. The list goes on, and today’s Second City cast features some of the brightest, up-and-coming funny faces in the entertainment industry.
Second City combines a series of comedic sketches and improvisation into their work. The current tour features the “Fair and Unbalanced” show. The audience can expect smart, witty humor and big laughs.
