Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus Steven Carter named James Madison game Hokie Hero
Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumnus Lt. Col. Steven Carter, U.S. Army, who earned a degree in history from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences in 1989 has been selected as the Hokie Hero for the Virginia Tech versus James Madison game.
The corps Hokie Hero program started in 2006 by ISP Sports and sponsored by the University Bookstore, honors Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets alumni who are currently deployed. Recipients of this honor are highlighted by Bill Roth and Mike Burnop during the radio broadcast of Virginia Tech football games, on the corps website, on the corps alumni website and in the Corps Review magazine.
Carter is currently stationed in Iraq as a member of Joint Forces Special Operations Component Command-Iraq. He is originally from Blacksburg, Va., and this is his second one-year combat deployment. Carter is a Class of 1989 graduate of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and says he would like to send his love to his wife Liz and daughter Kenley. Liz Carter is a Virginia Tech alumna who earned a degree in biology from the College of Science in 1982. Kenley Carter is a freshman attending Radford University and enrolled in Army ROTC. The two are on campus this weekend as part of corps homecoming and Carter also extended birthday wishes to his daughter, "Happy 18th Birthday Kenley from Dad."
