Gov. McDonnell appoints veterinary college's Judi Lynch to Longwood University Board of Visitors
Judi M. Lynch, director of special initiatives in the Office of the Dean at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, has been named by Gov. Bob McDonnell to the Longwood University Board of Visitors.
The board is the governing body of Longwood University and is composed of 12 members appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Virginia General Assembly.
Lynch was sworn in to the four-year term by Judge Joey Showalter at the Radford Courthouse on Thursday, July 8. The qualifications, terms, powers, and duties of members of the board are established by Virginia state law.
A recipient of a bachelor’s degree from Longwood University, as well as a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech, Lynch said she is ecstatic to serve her undergraduate alma mater in this new capacity. “I hold Longwood near and dear, as I do Virginia Tech,” Lynch said.
Earlier this year, Lynch was appointed to first lady Maureen McDonnell's advisory council to support the First Lady's Initiatives Team Effort (FLITE). FLITE recognizes programs, activities, organizations, and individuals who embody the ideal of creating “a commonwealth of opportunity” in their communities.
Lynch has been with the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine since 2003 and has served as director of special initiatives and director of outreach. She also worked in the College of Engineering as director of undergraduate recruitment and for the Virginia Tech Alumni Association as the student and alumni programs coordinator.
