Dixon Hanna honored with emeritus status
Dixon Hanna, associate vice provost of academic planning, resources, and space in the Office of the Provost at Virginia Tech, has been conferred the "associate vice provost emeritus" title by the Virginia Tech Board of Visitors.
The title of emeritus may be conferred on retired professors and associate professors, administrative officers, librarians, and exceptional staff members who are specially recommended to the board of visitors by Virginia Tech President Charles W. Steger. Nominated individuals who are approved by the board of visitors receive an emeritus certificate from the university.
A member of the Virginia Tech community since 1972, Hanna served the university first as a faculty member in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, and secondly as associate vice provost for academic planning, resources, and space.
During his tenure in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, Hanna held various positions, including assistant and associate dean for administration and executive director for finance and administration in the Public Service Division. He also served as interim vice provost for outreach and economic development, oversaw the university’s Continuing Education Program, Public Services, and the Office of International Research and Development, and provided leadership to the university’s initiatives in economic development.
As associate provost, he drew upon his architectural background to carry out his responsibility for the oversight of academic space. He was an effective advocate for classroom renovation and made important contributions to the development of the campus master plan and multiple building projects.
Hanna received his bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree from Carnegie-Mellon University.
