Virginia Tech Union announces spring schedule of performances, events
Virginia Tech Union, the largest student programming organization at Virginia Tech, has announced its spring schedule of performances and events.
It includes Michael Lang, producer of Woodstock and Fred Haise, lunar module pilot on Apollo 13. The upcoming events are open to the public. The Virginia Tech Union calendar includes the following events:
- The acoustic café, a showcase of local talent, will be held on Feb. 5, March 19, April 2, and April 23. The acoustic café will be held in Johnson Student Center. Admission is free.
- Films start Feb. 5 with “Where the Wild Things Are” and “New Moon.” is scheduled for Feb. 12. Other titles are to be announced later in the semester. Admission is $2 for students and $3 for non-students.
- Fred Haise, lunar module pilot on Apollo 13, will be speaking on Feb. 25 in Squires Haymarket Theatre. Haise’s speech focuses on the idea that failure is not an option.
- Winterfest, coming up on Feb. 26 and 27, is an indoor carnival for the kids. Moon bounces, magicians, and other entertainment are free.
- Kim Burrell will be performing on March 20. She is a gospel singer nominated for three Grammy’s in 2010. This event is $7 for students and $20 for non-students.
- Dominic Gaudios will be performing on April 10. He incorporates classical guitars with exotic instruments such as the Australian didgeridoo. Admission is $7 for students and $20 the public.
- Michael Lang, one of the creators of Woodstock, will be coming on April 14 to speak. The event will be held in Squires Haymarket Theatre.
- Soundfest, an annual Virginia Tech Union event, will be on April 30. There will be five bands playing for free.
- Virginia Tech Unions’s 40th anniversary reunion will be on May 1.
