UPDATE: Virginia Tech Police request assistance on investigation; suspect identified
(10 p.m.) Virginia Tech Police have located the subject from the incidents at Squires and the parking lot near the university bookstore.
Earlier this evening, Virginia Tech Police requested assistance in identifying a person involved in two incidents that occurred on Monday afternoon on the Virginia Tech campus. Upon receipt of the community notice, several persons contacted police and provided information. Based on that information, Virginia Tech Police have identified and located the subject in question and made contact with him.
Virginia Tech Police are continuing the investigation and assisting the individual in question. There is no known threat to the community and the subject is now at an off-campus location. Virginia Tech Police greatly appreciate all of the assistance provided by the community that aided the quick resolution of this incident.

January 25, 2010 (8 p.m.) -- The Virginia Tech Police Department is currently investigating two incidents that occurred on Monday, January 25, 2010.
The first incident occurred between 2:00 and 2:30 pm when a man approached two female students near the bowling alley in the Squires Student Center. The suspect began speaking with the students. During the discussion with the women, the man acted odd and disoriented. The women became uncomfortable and decided to leave the area. The suspect followed the women for a short distance out of the Squires Student Center, and he then walked in the direction of Kent Street.
The second incident occurred at approximately 2:45 pm, when a man approached and entered an occupied vehicle in the parking lot outside the university bookstore. After the man got into the back driver's-side seat of the vehicle, he questioned the occupants of the vehicle about where they were going and requested a ride to where they were headed. The persons in the car declined and the man exited the vehicle. He then walked toward the Hokie Grille, in the area of the Squires Student Center and the Newman Library.
In both cases, the suspect is described as a white male, 5 foot, 9 inches to 5 foot 11 inches tall, wearing a brown jacket, blue jeans and carrying a black backpack. The suspect has short dark brown hair and may have scratches or scars on his face. He may have referenced the name *Daniel* during the interactions described above.
Virginia Tech Police are requesting assistance from any persons who may have witnessed the incidents or have further information.
