A total of 100 employers have signed up to attend the 27th annual Business Horizons career fair of Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business on Thursday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Squires Student Center Commonwealth ballroom on the Virginia Tech's main campus.

The career fair is organized annually by Pamplin undergraduates for Pamplin students. Employer signups are down from last year's fair, which drew 164 employers, said Gary Kinder, Pamplin's career services director for undergraduate programs. Attributing the decline to the recession, he said, "We are pleased to have received this number of registrations, given the continued economic uncertainty. The fact that so many companies continue to attend the fair speaks volumes about their commitment and interest in recruiting quality candidates from Pamplin and Virginia Tech."

The fair gives Pamplin students and recruiters a good opportunity to meet and interact with each other in an informal setting, Kinder said. "Many employers who attend Business Horizons return to campus later to conduct interviews for new hire and internship positions."

To make the most effective use of the fair, students have been advised to prepare by doing research on the companies at the Business Horizons website, which includes a full list of the registered companies. The list is searchable so students can find out which majors are in demand at which companies and what other criteria are and learn more about each company in general, Kinder said. The site also provides pointers on getting resumés to recruiters, dressing appropriately for the event, and registering for on-campus interviews.

The Business Horizons team can be reached via e-mail or at the Business Horizons office at (540) 231-3389.
