Mildred R. Johnson named Virginia Admissions Counselor of the Year
Mildred Rigney Johnson, Virginia Tech's Director of Undergraduate Admissions, was recently named Virginia Admissions Counselor of the Year by the Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling (PCACAC), an honor given annually to outstanding admissions counselors from the Potomac and Chesapeake regions.
“Mildred Johnson has been a valued member of PCACAC for more than three decades,” said Paul Feakins, president of PCACAC.
“Mildred has been a great mentor and friend to me since I joined PCACAC, and I have valued her guidance. She is well known throughout our professional community for her honesty, patience, thoroughness, and sensitivity that consistently characterizes her work with students, parents, and professionals.”
PCACAC was founded in 1964 and is a regional affiliate of the National Association of College Admission Counseling, serving Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The purpose of this organization is to provide guidance and support for those in higher education who help students transition from high school to college.
“Anyone who has had the pleasure of working with Mildred knows how dedicated, genuine, and enthusiastic she is about the admissions process,” said Daniel Wubah, vice president and dean for undergraduate education.
I am proud of her work as director of Undergraduate Admissions and believe this award has been given to a well-deserving individual.”
Johnson has more than 30 years of experience in the admissions profession and has been involved with PCACAC throughout her career. Johnson joined Virginia Tech’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions in 1995. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, she was assistant director of academic advising at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In addition, Johnson worked as associate director of admissions at Longwood University and Gardner-Webb University, as well as assistant director of admissions at Averett University. Johnson received a bachelor’s degree from Averett University and a master’s degree from Radford University.
