The Virginia Tech Union (VTU) programming council has announced its officers for 2009-2010. The officers are responsible for the concerts, films, speakers, special events, and fine arts programming on the Virginia Tech campus.

Each officer volunteers his or her time to bring events to the university community. Virginia Tech Union is the largest programming organization at the university hosting more than 60 events each academic year.

Founded in 1969, Virginia Tech Union provides quality educational and social entertainment that represents the diverse culture of Virginia Tech’s students and its community. In addition, the group enhances Virginia Tech students’ out-of-classroom experience through leadership and volunteer opportunities. VTU is advised by the Virginia Tech Department of Student Activities, part of University Unions and Student Activities, a unit within the Division of Student Affairs.

Upcoming VTU events include Soundfest 2009, featuring five bands. Soundfest 2009 is scheduled for Saturday, May 2 in Squires Commonwealth Ballroom. It is free and open to students and the public.   • Director of Concerts: David Silberstein of Fairfax, Va., a junior majoring in marketing in the Pamplin College of Business.
  • Director of Films: Matthew Parker of Purcellville, Va., a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering.
  • Director of House and Hospitality: Leah Potok of Crofton, Md., a junior majoring in hospitality and tourism management in the Pamplin College of Business.
  • Director of Public Relations: Lee Elizabeth Grimes of Virginia Beach, Va., a sophomore majoring in communications with an English minor in the college of College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences
  • Director of Lively Arts: Julianne Jones of McGaheysville, Va., a junior majoring in hospitality and tourism management in the Pamplin College of Business.
  • Director of Graphic Design: Zachary Gunner Madrigal of Stafford, Va., a junior majoring in marketing management in the Pamplin College of Business.
  • Director of Alternative Sounds: Abby Caroline Schoenfeld of Portsmouth, Va., a junior majoring in business management in the Pamplin College of Business.
  • Director of Speakers: John Barry Peaseley of Richmond, Va., a junior majoring in finance and economics in the Pamplin College of Business.
  • Director of Special Events: Brandon James Love of Lynchburg, Va., a sophomore majoring in economics in the Pamplin College of Business.
  • Director of Web Design: Grant Pan of Ashburn, Va., a sophomore majoring in computer science in the College of Engineering.
