University names Susan Steeves media relations manager

Susan Steeves, of Radford, Va., has been named media relations manager in the Office of University Relations at Virginia Tech.

In her new position, Steeves will act as liaison between the university and the media in coordinating interviews for radio, television, print, and Internet news operations.

Prior to accepting the position at Virginia Tech, Steeves was senior science writer and media relations officer at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., for seven years. She held a similar position at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas for four years. In addition, she has been a staff writer and editor for newspapers, magazines, WebMD, and United Press International.

A member of the National Association of Science Writers and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Steeves has received numerous awards from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for her writing on university topics.

Steeves is a native of the Detroit area and a graduate of Michigan State University School of Journalism.
