Dr. S. Ansar Ahmed has been named interim head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology in the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech.

Ahmed, a professor of immunology who has been a Department of Biomedical Sciences and Pathobiology faculty member since 2001, will also continue to serve as director of the college’s Center for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Disease.

“Dr. Ahmed is an accomplished researcher and administrator,” said Dean Gerhardt Schurig. “He is playing a vital role in our developing research program and will provide important leadership in this area.”

Ahmed holds a D.V.M. from the University of Agricultural Sciences in Bangalore and a Ph.D. from the School of Veterinary Studies, The Murdoch University, Australia. He is a member of the American Association of Immunologists and the International Cytokine Society.

The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM) is a two-state, three-campus professional school operated by the land-grant universities of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and the University of Maryland at College Park.
