The Virginia Tech Union announces the 2005-2006 Lively Arts season. This year’s season encompasses a diverse array of professional performances across a broad range of genres.

THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE (October 5, 7:30 p.m., Burruss Auditorium)

A high-spirited musical romp, based on the popular movie that has all of New York dancing the Charleston. Set in 1920s New York and filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment. Based on the Oscar-winning film starring Julie Andrews, Millie won six Tony Awards in 2002 including the award for Best Musical.

THE MOSCOW BOYS CHOIR: CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD (November 15, 7:30 p.m., Burruss Auditorium)

The Moscow Boys Choir returns to the New River Valley with their Christmas Around the World program. Founded in 1957, the Moscow Boys Choir is the most prestigious all-boy choir in Russia. Under the direction of Choir Master Leonid Baklushin, these performers have enchanted audiences throughout the world with special appearances at the International Festival of Boys Choirs in Poland, The Royal Albert Hall in London, and the White House.

A BROADWAY VALENTINE (February 13, 7:30 p.m., Burruss Auditorium)

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with three of Broadway’s biggest stars performing love songs from its most famous shows and composers. (Note: performers subject to availability and will be announced at a later date.)

TAP DOGS REBOOTED! (March 24, 7:30 p.m., Burruss Auditorium)

The international sensation – Tap Dogs – is back and ready to leave dents on stages all across North America. Created by Olivier Award –winning choreographer Dein Perry, and a driving score by composer Andrew Wilkie, Tap Dogs is rough, tough, rocking theatrical entertainment. Winner of 11 International Awards, Tap Dogs has been a howling success all across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

AFRO-LATIN JAZZ ORCHESTRA (April 25, 7:30 p.m., Burruss Auditorium)

A resident band of Jazz at Lincoln Center led by pianist Arturo O’Farrill, the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra sets out on its second world tour with a stop in the New River Valley. This ferocious ensemble plays the music of the Latin jazz giants, roaring with danceable rhythms from around the world. Co-sponsored by the Virginia Tech Music Department and in association with Arts Fusion 2006.
