Rethinking the future of medical packaging
In our lab, we are trying to make medical packaging materials safer for the patients. We also want to provide the knowledge and the feedback for designers to design packaging in a more efficient way. We want to make materials sustainable and biodegradable, and reduce the environmental concern and also the safety concern on the patients. And then we also want to improve the delivery of the temperature sensitive medicines. We work to understand the underlying conditions and the root cause of the microplastic generation. We try to understand how the whole medical supply chains can cause the releasing the microplastic, or any emerging contaminants into the patients or the end users. The other research we do is cold chain. You can drop the medicines in the front of the door for a few hours. And even the technology, you can hold it in your pocket, purse, bag without being concerned about your medicine. The last research line we work is on how we can make biodegradable or sustainable healthcare consumables. Like most of the healthcare consumers are technically disposable, healthcare products are produced from plastic. So, we are trying to valorize the ways like agriculture waste, or even forest waste, to produce the healthcare consumables and replace the plastics.
