Partnering to improve roadways

Category: research Video duration: Partnering to improve roadways
Virginia Tech Transportation Institute is collecting data for a new validation system for traffic speed deflectometers — specialized trucks equipped with sensors that continuously measure how much a road bends under the vehicle's weight while driving at highway speeds, providing structural assessments of a road without requiring lane closures. The work is sponsored by Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and is part of a 27-state effort to collect more accurate pavement data so states can improve pavement maintenance, save money, and be more efficient.
