Career-ready business education from day one

I am a first generation student. I'm the first one to come to college. Neither my parents nor my siblings have been in college. I declared my finance major starting at the beginning of my sophomore year. And that's really when I learned about Pamplin Career Services. Career Services helped me get my internship by just preparing myself for it. The more practice that you get, the better you're going to be more confident going in. Pamplin Career Services is special because we’re embedded directly within the College of Business. We get a really up close personal view on what our students are learning in their classes or the career pathways that they're going into. We are a very small but very dedicated team for student support and their career development. Our ultimate goal is to have every incoming student be assigned to a career advisor. We are able to personalize this advice and these appointments to all of our students. They're really great at telling you what employers are looking for. They're very helpful with interview prep, resume interviews, everything you could ever want when you're applying for internships. I've been fortunate enough to have an internship every summer, it all started my attending business rising freshman year. Some really successful students who start from freshman year and sophomore year, and they continue to meet with us have seen a lot of success. They do really great in the interview, they learn what to do after the interview and follow up with recruiters, and then they've gotten the positions that they sought out a student attends business horizons or a career track, they're able to get connections and use those for mentorships in the future. Information gathering on what kinds of roles they could apply for. We love connecting with alumni who are in the business space and may be wanting to connect with our students. Usually a well-prepared student is going to have some experience, whether that's through student organizations, internships, that kind of thing. And they're also going to be able to communicate strongly. The goal is to know our students, understand our students, because when we know our students, we can better support those career goals.
