Students dive into augmented reality in virtual jam sessions
I just wanted to learn the ins and outs. I wanted to learn how it's captured. I wanted to learn how the capture is taken into the software. I just didn't know how human movement could be applied to a model so fluidly. So that's what I really wanted to get into the nitty gritty of. Events like this are great for reaching our broader educational goals, because it allows us to be able to bring in students in a really playful capacity, with no deadlines, no expectations, just an opportunity to kind of engage with technology that they've probably never seen before. There are, you know, a million things telling me that you can't be in spaces like these. And yet here I am, alongside my peers that I'm with every single day that amaze me in their own ways. And here we are, responding to each other's ideas and kind of laughing alongside one another and having fun making cool things. We've got the Virtual Environments Studio upstairs and we've got all this motion capture technology that I won't have access to in the future. So, you know, I'll just talk to Trevor and I'll see, you know, what I can do. And, he gave me the whole tour, you gave me the rundown, and I just I fell in love with it. I thought it was just, like, the coolest thing. And I think it's incredible how when you put on the suit, you just completely like, transform into another character. Something people don't realize is that, like, you know, if you just express interest in wanting to learn any of this technology, like people and professors around you will try to open doors for you to make that happen. You just have to shoot your shot and you just have to be willing to learn and experiment with everything that we have. Sometimes we think of these advanced careers like immersive environments or mixed reality or virtual production environments as this sort of like far off, one day I might learn this thing, and I think events like this bring it to the now, bring it to today where they're not waiting to learn how to learn this. They're already given the opportunity to experience it.
