Stephanie Lake Company leads world-class workshop for performing arts students
We found out that the Stephanie Lake Company was coming all the way from Australia. It was really phenomenal to have a professional company come in and work with us in this way. This workshop was so much fun. It was a collaborative music and dance workshop between the musicians that have been working with the Stephanie Lake Company and the dancers. It's such a unique opportunity at this university that we get these world-class companies coming through and getting to interface really closely with the students it's such a treat. It was really fun it's such a different experience when you have live music because all of a sudden it's not just you hearing something you're a part of it. You're very in tune with them, and you're trying to match them, but you're also getting feedback from them and they're getting feedback from you so it's this really collaborative process that just brings everything together. I think the biggest thing that I gained from today was just to be more aware of the musicians and the dancers around me, not just be so locked into what I'm doing. It's really exciting to get to work with professionals, especially professionals, you know, from the other side of the world, and to see how they do things. I really like how connected the drummers and the dancers are. This kind of went more in-depth for them, which was really great to see, and they could apply, you know, everything that they've been working on with us. They were able to apply those skills in a different way. There is this real opportunity at Virginia Tech to be working across disciplines, right? To be collaborating with not only dancers and musicians, but people that you wouldn't necessarily think are going to work together, bringing them together into the same room, and then really making something happen that is unexpected and synergistic.
