The David H. Kellogg Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics is a hub for cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and research-centered teaching in the humanities and social sciences. Electrical engineering graduate David H. Kellogg '82 recently committed a $16 million estate gift to endow the research center that he helped launch with initial support.

The David H. Kellogg Center for Philosophy, Politics and Economics is a cross-college research center at Virginia Tech. It's a hub for interdisciplinary research and research center teaching in the humanities and social sciences. The center trains students to develop solutions that are not only economically sound, but also ethically defensible and politically feasible. This year, in alignment with Virginia Tech's Global Distinction Initiative, the center was endowed through a generous support of Mr. Kellogg. Mr. Kellogg is a VT alum and he and his family have been long-standing supporters of PPE at Virginia Tech. Mr. Kellogg's contributions have helped to establish the center and they've made a significant impact on our faculty and students. I mean, I think I'm making a difference in the lives of these kids that are majoring in PPE. I think it's significant that the center is publishing an undergraduate research volume. because it's the only one in the country that's like that so that's a unique capability. Well I want to see them analyze policy options and help participate in the debate about government policy and I'd like to see them continue to expand the number of students that study PPE and come to Virginia Tech because they've got a good PPE program. PPE students pursue careers in both the private and public sectors whether it's within business, finance, consulting, government, public administration, international development or nonprofit leadership. In my view PPE is a future-approved degree that provides a highly valuable skill set that's well suited for our fast-changing world. This kind of intellectual training is what we expect of future leaders who must be well-rounded to make essential connections and be aware of the sometimes unintended consequences for their decisions in a complex social world. This is the very promise of a PPE education at Virginia Tech.
