Veterinary Teaching Hospital treats Oreo the pig
Meet Oreo, a Vietnamese potbelly owned by Jacob and Bre Turner. After a recent encounter with some ticks, the Turners brought Oreo in to the large animal section of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital to make sure he had no tick-borne illness. Oreo was cleared and is back to being his sassy diva self.
My name is Jacob Turner and this is Oreo. This is my little little fella right here. He just turned a year old and he's a Vietnamese pot belly. To be honest my my wife wanted one and I was like well we'll get one see how it works and so far it's been it's been a blessing really. It's a big learning curve. So I'm at trying to remember what age I really met Oreo and I'm sure what usually happens is that somebody like Jacob and Bree had acquired Oreo and then they call in for a wellness exam, potential neuter, vaccinations and so we we bring them in and then my job usually to talk to them before they bring them in just kind of you know where they live, how they treat, how they incorporate it into their house, are they eating well, all those things before we stress them to bring them to the hospital because it is stressful he's a big diva and he's hard to deal with what they realize at some point in time also that they're toddlers forever so that's one thing that i do try to speak with owners about in the fact that do your research like before you get them because it's a commitment 15 to 20 years um is their lifespan so it's kind of like owning a cat right but the people who own them really they are their family members you know they're like we talk about pet animals but it's like it's a it's a family so we wake up at two o'clock in the morning and we feed him the first time and we take him outside and we feed him the second time and when i get off work around four o'clock that evening we come and we do a run around the property i got and he gets a good run around there and then come in and he's going to be sleeping until about two o'clock and we wake up and start all over again i like to call him like i said and just find out you know what's what everything how it's going normally and then if they have a complaint or if they just want to talk about just general things then we can answer those you know questions and then we can just set up the appointments we see them in the hospital and we also see them in the field. They've been very accommodating they've helped me out and helped Brea out that's my wife we've done multiple things together and they they're always on call Dr. Clark. We can text her anytime and she always helps us out. She's been very very helpful with him and helping us through this process of you know owning a mini pig for the first time which is a big undertaking.
