Meet the new dean of students
Meaghan Davidson joined Virginia Tech this summer and oversees the Dean of Students Office, New Student and Family Programs, Services for Students with Disabilities, Student Conduct, and more. She explains what the dean of students does and some of the expanded services the office offers.
Hi everyone, my name is Dr. Megan Davison and I'm serving as Virginia Tech's brand new Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students. The main reason is because I get to celebrate and be with students when they're shining and achieving all of their goals and just really celebrating the wins. I think every college campus does it a little bit differently, but for me, a lot of it is really about taking the time and and effort to understand the variety of different experiences that are our students. We now have a basic needs and off-campus student supports area and so that brand new team is really going to be thinking about how the institution is engaging and supporting our students who move off campus. I think if a student is experiencing a complex concern or issue, for them to reach out to the Dean of Students Office would be a wonderful first step. We have a full staff over there that they're able to engage with and learn about our resources and activities so that they can kind of navigate whatever's going on in their world. I think first and foremost if you're concerned about a student, so being able to reach out to the Dean of Students Office, share what you've seen and observed so that we're able to do a care and concern, outreach to that student, and hopefully connect with them and connect them to the right resources.
