Area Tech on Tap reception for the opening of The Nikki Giovanni Immersive Experience at the Torpedo Factory Art Museum in Alexandria. The exhibit, produced by the Virginia Tech Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT), combines audio of Nikki reading her own poetry with composed music, audio soundscapes, and motion graphics for an immersive experience. The exhibit will remain at the Torpedo Factory until May 17th, 2026. ]]></description>

The studio led by Susan Piedmont-Palladino, is a mix of graduate, 4th year undergraduate, and exchange students. The WAAC students are finalists in the multifamily building division and will compete at the hybrid Solar Decathlon competition event, April 19–21, 2024, at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado. ]]></description>

Middle school students, with the help from K-8 educators, will build, program, and fly drones in drone soccer competitions. The program is sponsored by Boeing, who along with the Innovation Campus, will host a regional qualifying tournament on March 16th. They will also host the U.S. Drone Soccer National Championship the last weekend in April. ]]></description>

The exhibit is presented by Virginia Tech’s Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT) and the City of Alexandria’s Office of the Arts. The installation enables visitors to explore an immersive sound and visual experience as they follow a meandering path through the space and listen to Shakespearean texts performed by Virginia Tech students. The Target Gallery is typically open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. daily with occasional 5 p.m. and holiday closures. The exhibition runs through May 26th. ]]></description>

        <description><![CDATA[ On Saturday, October 29, 2022, Virginia Tech hosted its first Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and College Fair in collaboration with Alfred Street Baptist Church at George Washington Middle Schools in Alexandria, Virginia. Over 200 K-12 students and parents were introduced to Virginia Tech as a destination to pursue their postsecondary goals. The event featured a college information session for parents, hands-on STEM sessions for K-12 students, a college and career fair, and a K-16 student panel with K-12 students highlighting their Center for the Enhancement in Engineering and Diversity (CEED) pre-college program experiences and Virginia Teach undergraduate students sharing their college experiences, lessons learned, and tips for success as current students pursuing STEM degrees. The collaborative efforts among Virginia Tech Innovation Campus, the College of Engineering, the Center for the Enhancement in Engineering and Diversity (CEED), the College Access Collaboratives, the College of Science, and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences made this event a reality with the huge support of 31 Virginia Tech undergraduate students from the Galileo/Hypatia, Ujima and Orion Living and Learning, and 15 exhibitors including Alexandria City Transit DASH Electrification Fleet, Inova Partnerships for Healthier Communities, Betabox Mobile Lab from North Carolina, Capital Youth Empowerment Programs, Go Pursue, and Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. ]]></description>
