If you have a child, chances are you’ve already been asked, “When can I have a cellphone?” For many kids, a smartphone is at the top of their Christmas wishlist. According to the company, these tools will allow parents to set usage limits and get notifications if the chatbot detects “acute distress.” Experts in artificial intelligence (AI) and child psychology at Virginia Tech view this more as progress, but caution that it might not be enough to prevent harm.
