Imagebase digital collections now housed in Special Collections and University Archives Online

Imagebase, Virginia Tech’s original digital collections website, will be sunsetting on May 29, 2026.

For the past year, the website has been restricted to campus-only access due to security vulnerabilities stemming from the site’s outdated architecture. While the site will be permanently shutting down, the content has been migrated to Special Collections and University Archives Online and is now publicly accessible both on and off campus. As a result of the migration process, many of the collections have received new high-resolution scans and descriptive metadata. Additionally, some collections have been expanded with newly selected and digitized material. 

Original Imagebase collections include materials from divisions such as Marketing and Communications (formerly University Relations), Athletics, and Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, as well as materials from community and corporate partners. Newly migrated materials can now be accessed on Special Collections and University Archives Online, in addition to Special Collections and University Archives materials spanning University History, Civil War, the International Archive of Women in Architecture, History of Food and Drink, Science and Technology, and Local and Regional History. 

Special Collections and University Archives, with technical support from University Libraries’ IT department, managed the migration of materials from Imagebase to Special Collections and University Archives Online.
