Assistant Professor Alice Barreca and Associate Professor Diana Rolando from the Department of Architecture and Design at the Polytechnic University of Turin will present "Rural Development Policy in Italy & the European Union" from 3-4:30 p.m. April 3 in Room F of Virginia Tech’s Graduate Life Center. The talk is free and open to the public.

Their presentation will examine how Italy and the European Union are helping small towns and rural areas grow through the Italian National Strategy for Inner Areas (SNAI) plan and how it fits into larger European programs that provide money and support for development.

The presentation will also outline how SNAI works, who is involved, and how well it is helping these areas. Their study looks at the first round of SNAI, using research and data to understand how the program has affected 43 different regions, what challenges remain, and what could be improved in the future.

Their presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
