Apply for National Institutes of Health R01 writing workshop

From: Office of Research and Innovation

Faculty who plan to be working on an National Institutes of Health (NIH) R01 proposal in Spring 2025 are encouraged to apply for a 10-week writing workshop. The highly interactive workshop, scheduled to begin Feb. 25, will be jointly led by two senior faculty mentors with significant experience writing and reviewing NIH grants.

To be considered for this program, faculty should fill out this application form by Jan. 27.

Required materials include an abstract of the proposal that you plan to develop during the workshop.

Over the workshop’s 10 sessions, participants will develop and refine each section of their proposal with guidance from peers, faculty mentors, and specialists in scientific writing. The final draft will be reviewed by a mock study section composed of Virginia Tech faculty with successful NIH proposal preparation experience. The workshop will be a reading- and writing-intensive effort; participants should expect to dedicate 5-10 hours per week, outside of the workshop sessions themselves, to preparing and reviewing materials.

For questions, contact Kirsten Nielsen (kirstennielsen@vt.edu).

Additional cycles of the workshop will be planned for the fall semester.
