Virginia Tech Appalachian Caucus toy drive to support families in Southwest Virginia
From: Virginia Tech Appalachian Caucus
In the spirit of community and holiday giving, the Virginia Tech Appalachian Caucus, in partnership with Holler 2 Holler and Virginia Tech Appalachian Studies, is organizing a toy drive to support families in Southwest Virginia.
The toy drive will take place from Nov. 1 to Dec. 11 with all donations going to children who need a little extra cheer this holiday season. One goal of this initiative is to help families rebuild from the tremendous loss caused by Hurricane Helene. Although the Christmas holiday is still over a month away, members of these organizations hope to ease some of the financial anxiety that comes with the holidays and is exacerbated by repairing homes and property loss at the same time.
Donors are encouraged to drop off new, unwrapped toys at one of the several Virginia Tech campus locations:
- Saunders Hall
- Litton Reaves Hall
- Lane Hall
- War Memorial Gym
- Wallace Hall
- Fralin Hall
- Data & Decision Sciences Building
- Hahn Hall North
- Henderson Hall
- School of Education (1750 Kraft Drive, CRC)
Suggested toys include stuffed animals, board games, puzzles, sports equipment, outdoor toys, action figures, dolls, books, and art supplies. Donations will ensure that children impacted by the disaster can enjoy the holiday season with excitement after a difficult year.
The Appalachian Caucus at Virginia Tech is dedicated to promoting the region’s culture, heritage, and advocacy through education, collaboration, and community service.
