From: The Division of Information Technology

The Division of Information Technology has been notified that Duo will be ending support for certain older versions of its 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) application, as well as for devices running older operating systems.

Specifically:

  • On March 31, Duo Mobile will end support for older versions of the Duo mobile application.

  • On April 16, Duo Mobile will end support for older mobile operating systems. Devices running iOS 16, Android 11, or earlier versions will no longer be supported.

After March 31, users whose Duo Mobile version is older than version 4.85 (as signified by a lower version number) will not be able to use Duo Push to authenticate by approving a notification from the Duo Mobile app or entering a verified 3-digit code in the Duo Mobile app.  Authenticating by using app-generated passcodes will still be an option.

After April 16, iOS 16 and Android 11 operating systems will no longer be supported by Duo Mobile. This means that users will not get bug fixes or be able to update Duo Mobile if already installed. If Duo Mobile is not already installed, it will not be available on your device's app store.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Users should update the operating system on their phones and other mobile devices to the latest version that the device will tolerate, then update the Duo Mobile app on those devices. Users who find themselves in a state where their device can't be updated to at least version 4.85 of the Duo Mobile app should prepare to lose Push capabilities on that device, and should consider adding other methods of authenticating to ensure that their ability to log in is not affected.
