The Division of Information Technology is offering a series of online courses designed to introduce users to Microsoft 365 tools available at Virginia Tech. Each 1-hour course will provide an introduction and discussion of the tool, explore its features and benefits, and demonstrate its varied uses for collaboration within research groups, classes, and projects.
Each class will be offered twice during the Spring 2026 semester through the Technology-enhanced Learning and Online Strategies’ Professional Development Network (TLOS PDN).
The courses will be taught using the most up-to-date versions of Microsoft Windows 11, Edge browser, Microsoft Office applications, and Microsoft Teams.
Course offerings include:
Transition to Outlook Email and Calendar
This session block is designed to support university professionals who are new to Outlook, or who want to learn how to use it more effectively. Topics we’ll cover include email management, calendar scheduling, task organization, and effective communication. This session block includes the following independent 1-hour sessions:
Basic Email Communication – This session explores basic, helpful settings in Outlook that include Auto replies and Undo Send.
Advanced Email Settings – This session explores some common and uncommon options available to you such as @mentions, Scheduling Features, and more.
Organize your Inbox – This session explores strategies for organizing your inbox such as Categories, Pin/Flag Emails, Thread Conversations, and Notification
Advanced Calendar Settings – Explore collaboration, share calendars, and manage response options.
Modern Work: Creating Efficient Workflows
This session block covers Windows 11’s accessibility features and how to enhance proficiency with the latest versions of some of Microsoft’s popular work tools, such as Word and PowerPoint. It includes the following independent 1-hour sessions:

Enhance Collaboration - PowerPoint Live, Loop, Tasks and To Do
Increase Productivity with Microsoft Teams
In this session block, participants will learn how to declutter their inbox using Microsoft Teams for communication and collaboration. We will explore project management tools that will enhance the opportunity to collaborate efficiently and effectively with colleagues. This block includes the following independent 1-hour session blocks:

Meet Copilot: Your Everyday Assistant
This session block is an introduction to Copilot and covers the basics of artificial intelligence, the functionality of Copilot, and its potential applications in teaching and learning. Participants will explore using Copilot in a hands-on immersive experience. Meet M365 Copilot: A Whole New way to Copilot
This session block explores the fundamentals of the licensed version of M365 Copilot including the fundamentals of building intelligent agents and how to integrate Copilot seamlessly across Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
