March programs invite you to “spring into wellness” with inspiration jars, mindful journaling, and more. Be sure to check out a downloadable calendar of all our spring programming.
March 3, 5:30-7 p.m.: Grief and Loss Group (in-person): Through group discussion, we will focus on sharing stories, answering questions, and processing experiences in a supportive manner. Psychoeducation around grief and loss will be provided when appropriate and helpful. This event will be held at the Psychological Services Center, 3110 Prices Fork Rd. Blacksburg, VA. Registration suggested.
March 4, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: How to Paint What You Feel (in-person): Paint your sensations and feelings using basic watercolors and mark-making with instructor Robin Scully. No experience needed; space limited to 15. This event will take place at the Squires Student Center, Perspective Gallery. Registration required.
March 4, 5:30-7 p.m.: Neurodiversity and Neurodivergence Group (in-person): The group will include discussions about neurodiversity, psychoeducation about neurodiversity/neurodivergence, specific skills to apply, and the opportunity to connect with others experiencing similar or shared concerns. This event will be held in the Psychological Services Center, 3110 Prices Fork Rd. Blacksburg, VA. Registration suggested.
March 5, 12-1 p.m.: Declutter your Finances, Declutter Your Financial Life (online): Just like spring cleaning your home, learn simple ways to organize and simplify your financial habits. Learn how small changes can reduce clutter and give you peace of mind. Registration required.
March 5, 12-1 p.m.: Thriving Through Menopause (online): Join this presentation by board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist Amanda Murchinson, who is also a professor at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, on managing perimenopause and menopause. Registration is required and the Zoom link will be provided after registration.
March 6, 1-2 p.m.: Community Resiliency Model (CRM)® Training (online): The CRM teaches six wellness skills to help people regulate their nervous systems and restore balance, empowering them to support themselves and share those skills with others in their community. Registration required.
March 10, 12-1 p.m.: Take a Brain Break (in-person): Bring your lunch and make a DIY craft with Hokie Wellness during this mid-day break. Materials will be provided. This event will be held at the North End Center, room 2410. Registration required.
March 11, 12-1:15 p.m.: Perimenopause: What's Happening? (online): This open, frank, and educational discussion covers the experiences of, and information about, perimenopause. Registration required.
March 12, 12-1 p.m.: "Improv" Your Communication (in-person): Join Talent Development and Hokie Wellness for a fun, interactive, and engaging in-person workshop that explores the benefits of learning the foundational aspects of improvisation and how those skills can be used to enhance communication. This event will take place in Room 2440, North End Center. Registration required.

March 19, 12-1:30 p.m.: Menopause Cafe (in-person): Menopause Café is a discussion group aimed at destigmatizing menopause, with no talks, no experts, and open to all employees. This event will be held at The Virginia Tech Inn, and no registration is required. Learn more.
March 23, 12:30-1:30 p.m.: Weight Training for Life (in-person): Want to incorporate weight training into your fitness routine but not sure where to start? Feel intimidated by a weight room? Looking for tips on how to modify activities to fit your needs? If yes to any of these, you are in the right spot. This event will be held at the Rec Sports Field House. Registration required.
March 24, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Strong Minds, Strong Bodies (online): Learn about the mind-body connection and how exercise and sports are connected to our mental health. This program will include light movement that you can adopt and adapt to your own comfort and ability. Registration required.
March 25, 12:30-1:30 p.m.: Post-Menopause: What’s Next? (online): We will talk about what being post-menopausal means, and the importance of taking care of your health. Registration required.
March 26, 1-2 p.m.: Saving for Education with Invest529 (formerly VA529) (online): Learn how an Invest529 account can help you easily save for education with tax-free earnings, flexible options, and tools to help you reach your goals. Registration required.
March 27, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) (online): MHFA takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance-use by improving understanding and providing an action plan that teaches people to safely and responsibly identify and address issues as they arise. Registration required.
March 27, 12-12:45 p.m.: Small Changes, Big Impact — LewisGale Physician Series (online): We hear about doing the right things for our health, but we don’t always see how these changes make an impact. Come learn how small changes can make big improvements in health metrics through looking at case studies with LewisGale. Registration required.
March 31, 12-1 p.m.: Mindful Journaling (online): Join Hokie Wellness for this program during which intentional and mindful reflection will offer employees an opportunity to reconnect with their sense of purpose by working through a collection of guided journaling prompts. Registration required.
March 31, 12-1:30 p.m.: Cooking with the DASH Diet to Protect Cardiovascular Health (in-person): Learn more about the DASH diet to improve your cardiovascular health and discover how good food tastes with less salt. This event will be held in Room 403, Wallace Hall. Registration required.
