May’s programs focus on life transitions, featuring workshops on homebuying and nutrition, along with the start of a new mental health series. Be sure to check out a downloadable calendar of all our summer programming.

May 1, 3-4 p.m.: Unpacking Grief (online): In this session, we will explore how grief can manifest in our lives following loss of loved ones or a major life change. This workshop will be largely discussion-based. Registration required.

May 5, 12-1 p.m.: Brain Break (in-person): Bring your lunch and make a DIY craft with Hokie Wellness during this mid-day break. Materials will be provided. This event will be held at the North End Center, room 2440. Registration required.

May 7, 12:30-1:15 p.m.: Downsizing and Rightsizing: Finding the right sized home (online):  This program helps participants make informed decisions about their next move. Learn how to determine the right-size home based on an evaluation of your lifestyle needs, financial goals, health considerations, and long-term plans. Registration required.

May 9, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.: Parent Meet-up: Family Yoga at Huckleberry Park (in-person): Enjoy the outdoors with a family yoga session in the park. The yoga class is open to all ages and only 30 minutes, leaving time for families to gather and enjoy complimentary snacks. This event will be held at Christiansburg Huckleberry Park, Hilltop Pavilion. Registration suggested.

May 12, 2-3 p.m.: Global Mental Health Series: Barriers and Access to Care (online): This session is part of a lecture series that distills lessons from mental health research around the world into practical applications. This workshop, in particular, will delve into mental health as part of the U.S. healthcare system. Registration required.

May 12, 5:30-7 p.m.: Grief and Loss Group (in-person): Through group discussion, we will focus on sharing stories, answering questions, and processing experiences in a supportive manner. Psychoeducation around grief and loss will be provided when appropriate and helpful. This event will be held at the Psychological Services Center, 3110 Prices Fork Rd. Blacksburg, VA. Registration suggested. 

May 13, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Financial Planning and Supporting Aging Parents (online): The workshop will provide attendees key financial guidance and support to help caregivers learn how to initiate meaningful conversations with their parents about finances, independence, and future care preferences while maintaining respect and dignity. Registration required.

May 13, 5:30-7 p.m.: Neurodiversity and Neurodivergence Group (in-person): The group will include discussions about neurodiversity, psychoeducation about neurodiversity/neurodivergence, specific skills to apply, and the opportunity to connect with others experiencing similar or shared concerns. This event will be held at the Psychological Services Center, 3110 Prices Fork Rd. Blacksburg, VA. Registration suggested.

May 14, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Decoding Nutrition Labels (online): Participants will learn about the basics of reading nutrition labels, how to interpret common terms used to market products, and how to use ingredient lists to make nutritious choices. Registration required.

May 18, 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.: Homebuying 101: What Can I Afford? (hybrid): Thinking about buying a home but not sure where to start? Join us for a friendly, informative session with a licensed lender covering budgeting, what lenders look for, loan options, and steps to boost your financial readiness for homeownership. This event will be held via Zoom and at the North End Center, room 2440. Registration required.

May 22, 1-2 p.m.: Seven Types of Rest (online): Did you know that there are other ways to incorporate rest into our lives? Join us as we explore the Seven Types of Rest® and identify ways we can strengthen restorative practices to show up as our best authentic selves. Registration required.

May 26, 1-2 p.m.: 6 Dimensions of Wellbeing (hybrid): Holistic well-being is more than just your physical and mental health. Come learn what areas of wellbeing you are thriving in, what areas could use some attention, and most importantly, strategies to support those areas. This event will be held via Zoom and at the North End Center, room 2410. Registration required.
