June’s programs focus on summer well-being, featuring workshops on mindful communication, seasonal nutrition, the impacts of heat on your health, and several opportunities to connect. Be sure to check out a downloadable calendar of all our summer programming.

June 4, 11-11:45 a.m.: Ready, Set, Run: A Beginner’s Guide (hybrid): Learn how to start running with confidence as a local running expert covers training basics, realistic goal expectations, beginners gear, and simple strategies to build consistency. This event will be held via Zoom and at McComas Hall, room 143. Registration required.

June 5, 12-1 p.m.: Mindful Journaling (online): Take some intentional time to practice mindfulness and reconnect with your sense of purpose by working through a collection of guided journaling prompts. Registration required.

June 9, 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Planning for Baby - Staff (hybrid): Learn about benefits, leave, and other resources available for new parents. All expecting and new parents are welcome to attend including fathers, non-birth mothers, and adoptive parents. This event will be held via Zoom and at the 2450 North End Center. Registration required.

June 10, 11:30 a.m.- 12 p.m.: Wednesday Walk and Talk (in-person): Join a local realtor for a relaxing 30-minute walk around Blacksburg campus. This is a time to ask questions, get local real estate insights, enjoy movement, get connected, and have great conversation. No sales, no materials, just a friendly walk and talk. This event will take place at the front steps of Burruss Hall. Registration suggested.

June 11, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Mental Health First Aid (online): Take the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use. Improve understanding of an action plan that teaches you how to safely and responsibly identify and address issues as they arise. Registration required.

June 11, 12-1 p.m.: Brain Break (in-person): Bring your lunch and make a DIY craft. Materials will be provided. This event will take place at the 2410 North End Center. Registration required.

June 12, 1-2 p.m.: Global Mental Health Series – Personal Growth and Identity Development (online): This session is part of a lecture series that distills lessons from mental health research around the world into practical applications. In this particular workshop, employees will be invited to examine how self-reflection can shape personal growth. Registration required.

June 13, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Parent Meet-Up: Bike Basics (in-person): Whether your little one is just starting to get on a balance bike or confidently ride on their own, this event is open to everyone. Event activities will include playing on campus, coloring sheets, bike basics with the Virginia Tech Bike Hub staff, bike lessons, and more. This event will take place at the Virginia Tech Transit Center, 1324 Perry Street. Registration required.

June 15, 12-1 p.m.: Student Loan Repayment Changes (online): Come hear from the experts in the Virginia Tech Office of University Scholarships and Financial Aid about how student loan repayment plans are changing and what you might need to do if you are currently paying back student loans. Registration required.

June 16, 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Planning for Baby - Faculty (online): Learn about benefits, leave, and other resources available for new parents. June 17, 12-1 p.m.: Riding the Wave: Staying Grounded and Communicating Mindfully (online): Ever been in a conflict where it seemed like the situation was out of control and you had no idea the direction the situation was going in? Ever wanted to feel you were more in control of a conflict? If so, join us as we begin exploring how we can go about responding to conflict by being more aware and thoughtful of our responses. Registration required.

June 17, 1-2:15 p.m.: Alpha-Gal Syndrome: An Emerging Epidemic (hybrid): Alpha-gal syndrome is now one of the top tick-borne conditions in Virginia. Come learn about tips and tricks for management, tick bite prevention, and more with local experts. This event will be held via Zoom and at the North End Center, room TBD. Registration required.

June 23, 2-3 p.m.: Heat & Health (online): Looking to beat the heat? This session will explore the connections between heat, physical health, and mental health as well as how to maintain health and well-being in warmer weather. Registration required. 

June 24, 4-5 p.m.: What’s in Season (in-person): Come explore different offerings at the Blacksburg Farmer's Market and discuss ways to incorporate fresh seasonal produce and goods into a healthy diet. This event will begin at the Little Free Library, near 108 W Roanoke Street. Registration required.

June 25, 11 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.: Hosting Recovery Friendly Events (hybrid): Expand your hosting skills by creating affirming spaces for people on diverse recovery journeys. Learn ways to organically weave in recovery supportive elements and welcome guests navigating recovery from alcohol, disordered eating, gambling, and more. Registration required.

June 29, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.: Sleep Better Techniques (hybrid): If you struggle with sleep, this is the workshop for you. Come take a sleep assessment and explore strategies that might help you get longer and better-quality sleep. This event will be held via Zoom and at the North End Center, room 2410. Registration required.

June 30, 11 a.m. - 12p.m.: Self-Care Strategies to Avoid Burnout (online): We will examine strategies we can engage with to recognize psychological and physical symptoms of stress. We will also practice identifying actions we can take to alleviate these stressors before escalating into burnout. Registration required.
