Academic Building One warranty glass replacement begins August 31
From: Division of Facilities
Virginia Tech’s Academic Building One, located in Alexandria, will undergo warranty glass replacement, beginning on August 31 lasting throughout the fall semester.
The initial work will require temporary changes to pedestrian access, closure of the main entrance, as well as an increased contractor presence and potential increased noise during crane and drilling operations. A limited duration single lane closure of Potomac Avenue will occur later in the project and be communicated accordingly.
At the end of August, contractors will begin preparing the work area, including installation of fencing, signage, barriers, and overhead protection near the main entrance.
Beginning on August 31, Reed Avenue will be blocked off and closed to vehicle traffic. Occupants will need to enter and exit via University Drive onto Potomac Avenue. The main building entrance, off of Reed Avenue will be modified to be emergency access only. Signage and barriers will be in place to aid in navigation and accessible routes and parking will not be impacted.
Beginning on Sept. 8, through Sept 10, occupants may notice contractor activity on the third through eleventh floors at the south end of the building.
Additional information and project updates including route changes, pedestrian access, and road closures will be shared via campus notice, as it becomes available.
